“Don’t you know that the best judge is the ordinary man of the street?” This line was personally told to me face-to-face in the 90s yet but it still rings clearly in my ears. I can no longer recall the exact year but that was the first time I was invited to sit as judge in the prestigious Cebu Popular Music Festival or Cebupop. #As tradition dictates, the judges were gathered for a luncheon orientation. It was then that I met the other judges. Feeling insecure & inadequate in their company, I secretly whispered to the man in charge of the activity that I was backing out for the abovementioned reasons. That was when I heared the line that I now consider classic. The line succeeded in uplifting my spirit, bolstering my self-confidence & fortifying my self-importance. The line may have been embedded in my subconscious that it immediately guided in future occasions of the same kind, and more. I attribute the line to the brilliant, talented, gifted, prolific individual in the fields of doctrine, music & arts popularly known as the Rev. Monsignor Rudy Villanueva. Yesterday, May 23, 2024, he has left the world of the living to join our Creator. Rest in peace, Mons. Thank you! (photo not mine)
