| Hello, Universe! May brought a wave of excitement with countless opportunities. In the spirit of AAPI month, I joined Gold House, an organization uniting Asian Pacific creatives, companies, and leaders, for many events around New York City, including lighting up the Empire State Building in gold to celebrate the month!Alongside that, I embarked on a heartfelt journey back to the Philippines. I had the honor of wearing the Filipiniana dress, which represents pride, strength, and the fight for freedom. I was so honored to express my Filipino-American heritage through fashion. While in the Philippines, I visited Philippine Band of Mercy with Smile Train and witnessed a cleft lip surgery on 6-month-old baby Krisha. It was intense and heart-wrenching, but it’s important to remember that early surgery will enable her to receive therapy faster.Later in Manila, my family and I returned to my father’s childhood street, where I got to reconnect with so many wonderful people I remember from my summers here growing up. I have so many cherished memories of playing in the rain outside, having breakfast, and playing cards on the street, and it all still feels the same! We also got to give back to the local community which has been a priority for me since I won in January. So, my Philippines trip really stands out among all of May’s memorable experiences! The love and excitement from the Filipino people was heartwarming. Connecting with my roots and celebrating the Miss Universe win with Filipinos brought me immense joy.
